A video of how to eat healthy food on the go for cancer patients

Many Cancer patients spend most of their time traveling to and from their appointments, whether by car or plane, and eating healthy isn’t always the most important thing. Also, when traveling, it is not as easy to have nutritional options as you would at home, especially when it comes to snacks. So when it’s mid-afternoon and you’re looking for a quick energy boost but you’re stuck in an airport or in your car, you might limit yourself to whatever fast food you can find. But eating healthy snacks on the go doesn’t have to be a challenge. “Even if you have to drive through a fast food restaurant, there are usually grilled options, salad, or fruit that you can buy in place of the fries,” says Crystal Langlois, MD, director of clinical nutrition at a nearby hospital. Atlanta “You can also have unsweetened water or tea instead of soda.”

Plan in advance

Langlois recommends planning ahead when possible before heading out of town, or just across town, to help you make smarter decisions on the road. Try chopping vegetables into small pieces and dipping them in guacamole, hummus, almond butter, or salsa, for example. You can also make a healthy vegetarian dip by mixing plain Greek yogurt with dry spices like dill, diced onion, garlic, onion powder, chives, parsley, salt, and pepper. Or dip bite-sized pieces of fruit into cheese or fruit-flavored Greek yogurt. If you like your trail mix, Langlois says, using almonds, walnuts, walnuts, dried fruits, and fruits are healthy options. “Walnuts are an option for me,” she says. “Also bring pieces of fresh fruit, like an apple or a banana. These are old school staples, but they travel really well.”

portion control

But be careful not to throw an unexpected amount of sauce or nuts into a plastic bag. Instead, Langlois recommends using portion-controlled containers so you don’t end up eating calories for an entire day in one sitting.
