6 common myths about men’s hair
We know there is a lot of information out there when it comes to hair care, and here are 6 common myths when it comes to men’s hair – and the facts!
Myth #1 – Cutting your hair makes it grow faster
The truth – no matter how often you cut your hair, it will not automatically start growing faster. We know it’s not the best news to hear especially if you’re trying to grow your hair a new style. But the speed at which your hair grows is mostly determined by genes. However, there are other factors that can help such as getting plenty of protein, quitting smoking and trying to de-stress as much as possible.
Myth #2 – Wash your hair every day to keep it clean
The truth – washing your hair every day will not only dry out your hair, it will also make it dull and brittle, it also makes your hair more likely to get greasy faster. Try to wash your hair two or three times a week, and rinse it with water only on the days in between.
Myth 3 – Rinsing with cold water means more shine
Fact – This myth has been around for a long time, and there is a lack of factual evidence to support the idea. In contrast, the scientifically proven way to make your hair shinier is to use a quality conditioner every time you wash your hair.
Myth 4 – Air drying is healthier than blow drying
Fact – Despite the fact that you should reduce the amount of hot air you use and let your hair dry naturally every now and then, sometimes it’s not an option. Although blow drying damages the surface of your hair, air drying can cause damage to strands. Your best bet is to blow-dry your hair on the lowest setting while using pre-styling products with heat protection. Make sure to move the dryer around your head frequently to avoid concentrating the heat on one spot for too long.
Myth 5 – Hair gel can cause hair loss
Fact – While hair gel can dry out your hair and make it look thinner at times, it won’t cause hair loss. Some other styling techniques such as straightening hair can dry out your hair and make it feel brittle, and there is no link between the use of hair products and hair loss.
Myth 6 – Guys don’t need hair conditioner
Truth – Using a good hair conditioner can do so much more than make your hair look shiny and soft. Using conditioner after shampooing can help reduce damage and is ultimately an investment in the health of your hair.
